song sparks: a program for children & their families

Interactive songs plus kid-friendly songwriting process and a chance to start a song together on the spot.

SONG SPARKS is a joyful, high-energy music program with plenty of dancing, movement, and audience participation that builds community and shows kids that they can write songs too! Andrea’s original songs offer big messages for small humans- embracing creativity, showing kindness, and facing challenges- while inviting the group to participate in the songwriting process along the way.

What to expect in this 1 hour program:

  • Songs to participate in (scarves, lyric actions, creative percussion, singing together, lyric suggestions)
  • Tiny moments of “breaking down” what goes into creating a song using language kids can understand
  • Applying what we learn about songwriting to start a song together on the spot, which may become part of the Friend Andrea Collab project, where co-created songs are sometimes recorded and shared later in live performances or recordings :)

Welcoming to all ages and backgrounds, this program is a great fit for schools, libraries, and inclusive community spaces.

The songs and program are designed to be enjoyed by the whole family. Ages 4–9 tend to be a sweet spot for understanding and participating, but younger and older siblings, as well as caregivers, are welcome. Multi-age gatherings naturally promote community in a beautiful way!

What's your favorite color? Mine is yellow! One day, the sun was streaming in through the windows, adding a yellow glow to everything and it gave me the inspiration to write a song about not just things that look yellow, but things that feel yellow. Friendship is one of those things!

Did you know that moths must physically struggle to get out of their cocoons in order to fly? This song is a reminder that the challenges we face while working toward a goal help shape us to reach our dreams. This is a complex song that I often hear is a favorite at kids events. :)
